The Faculty of Music invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to work with Dr Matthew Machin-Autenrieth on the ERC-funded project ‘Past and Present Musical Encounters across the Strait of Gibraltar’.

Applicants with a Ph.D. in music or related fields (e.g. anthropology, cultural studies/history, sociology) are welcome. Successful candidates will be key members of the project’s research team, carrying out independent research and working in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. Role holders will be expected to contribute to one or more of the following areas:

•       Music and colonialism in the Maghreb, focusing on the French and Spanish Protectorates (1912–56) and potentially another comparative case study in Algeria and/or Tunisia
•       Postcolonial musical encounters between the Maghreb and the former colonial metropoles of France and Spain
•       Relevant theoretical approaches in (ethno)musicology, postcolonial studies and multiculturalism studies

This is a fixed-term appointment available from 1 October 2018 for four years. Salary range: £31,604 – £38,833 per annum.
