Teaching Opportunity, on UG Year 2 Module ‘Belief, Spirituality, and Religion’

Dear colleagues,

I am looking for a PhD candidate or a post-doc to assist me in the teaching of my Year 2 elective module Belief, Spirituality & Religion. Below are some key facts:

Brief module content: This module examines key sociological issues and debates in relation to religion/spirituality and non-religious belief systems. These include: diverse perspectives on religion/spirituality, transformation of religion, the spiritual revolution, fundamentalism, new media, young people and religion/spirituality, gender and religious dress, religion/spirituality and sexuality, atheism, secularism, humanism, scientism, freedom of expression vs. sanctity of religion.

  •       Number of students: 50 (max)
  •       Main duties: (i) To teach two 1-hour seminars a week, for 11 weeks; (ii) To assess fifty 4000-word essays
  •       Teaching period: Term 2 (8 weeks, w/c 29 January 2018 to w/c 19 March 2018), and Term 3 (3 weeks, w/c 23 April 2018 to w/c 7 May 2018)
  •       Timetable: The seminars will be held on Thursdays, 16:00-18:00
  •       Assessment due date: 14 May 2018. The essays are expected to be marked within 10 working days
  •       Remuneration: £15.49 per hour (for a PhD candidate, including holiday pay), or £17.42 (for a post-doc, including holiday pay). The total number of paid hours of work – including preparation, class contact, meetings, and marking – is approximately 78 hours
