7th LCSS PhD Methodology Conference
to be held on 20 September 2019 in partnership with University of Greenwich and London South Bank University.

The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 31 August 2019.

The conference aims to bring together PhD & Professional doctoral students and early-career researchers from various disciplines within the Social Sciences and Humanities in order to share their research experiences. This year the
conference will primarily address and consider methodological, empirical and ethical issues relevant to the Social Sciences and Humanities. Its main focus will be the impact of Big Data on methodological choices. Against
such considerations, the conference will consider issues such as formulating a research question, various aspects of research design and important ethical issues facing researchers.

The conference will give PhD students and early-career researchers an opportunity to debate and reflect on their methodological choices in order to consider alternative approaches, methods, tools and resources. It will also be a venue where possible challenges facing researchers will be supportively discussed.

Within the identified domains, the conference will address the following topics, but will not be limited to them:

● The impact of Big Data on methodological choices, formulation of research
questions and research design.

● Ethics and ethical issues faced while conducting research.

● Key challenges in identifying the type of research methodology.

● Research philosophy and adopting different ontological and epistemological positions.

● The advantages and disadvantages of using mixed methods and methodologies.
