The National Museum of Ethnology, Japan (Minpaku) will accept one Overseas Visiting Fellow annually by public recruitment, to conduct research relating to an institute-wide project, and to contribute to the promotion of the project. The specific research theme for this public recruitment differs every year.

The research theme for the fiscal year 2020 public recruitment is “Contemporary Civilization and the Future of Humanity: Environment, Culture and Humans”. More concretely, here are subcategories:
– “Environmental problems and biodiversity”
– “Food problems in relation to ecosystem and environment”
– “Cultural collision and pluralistic values”
– “Cultural heritage and community cultures”
– “Ethnic minorities and multi-ethnic coexistence”
– “Population problems in relation to family and society”

The research period should commence within the fiscal year (FY) 2020 (1st April, 2020-31st March, 2021) and it should last more than 10 months (300 days) but less than a year (365 days) in principle. A monthly salary will be paid according to Minpaku regulations within the range of 435,000~766,000 JPY (from this amount, income and other taxes will be deducted), and will be provided at a determined date every month. For the first and last months in Japan, the salary will be paid according to the number of days worked. Social welfare premiums such as national health insurance, long-term care insurance and national pension will be at Overseas Visiting Fellow’s own expense (the requirements for these vary according to individual circumstances). The one round-trip ticket between your organization and Minpaku will be arranged. For the return trip, the plane ticket(s) will be arranged if the fellow leaves Japan within a short period after the contract ends. You will be offered an!
 office for your own use and internet access. You may also make full use of the library and other Museum facilities. Accommodation leased by Minpaku is available. Minpaku pay the rent (depending on the accommodation) however, the utility fees and are at Overseas Visiting Fellow’s own expense.
