Postdoctoral Fellowship: Identity in Postcolonial Africa

The University of the Free State (UFS) seeks a postdoctoral fellow to research and teach on the theme: Identity in Postcolonial Africa. The fellow’s responsibilities will be to prepare publications that qualify for subsidy from South Africa’s Department of Higher Education and Training and to contribute to teaching in UFS’s Anthropology Department.

The successful candidate will have received a Ph.D. in anthropology or a cognate discipline within the last five years. Preference will be given to candidates whose previous research and/or teaching has addressed the topic of identity or who plan to examine identity in a new research project. The fellowship will be awarded for one year at the value of R 220,000 per annum with R 30,000 available for research expenses. Also, the fellowship may be extended depending on the fellow’s academic performance and the availability of funds.
