Lecturer in Social Anthropology – Department of Anthropology at UCL

The Department of Anthropology at UCL is a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We invite applications for two Lectureships in Social Anthropology. The successful candidates will be expected to carry out high-quality research and contribute to teaching in MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology and/or the new MSc in Politics, Violence and Crime. This includes teaching second/third year and Masters courses in Social Anthropology and undergraduate introductory courses in social anthropology as well as developing advanced optional modules in the appointee’s area of specialisation.

We seek applicants with research expertise within Social Anthropology, particularly those with regional or theoretical interests that complement the interests of existing staff in the Department of Anthropology.

The position is available from September 2018.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will be a promising researcher with a proven record of ability to conduct high quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high quality publications or other outputs. Relevant research areas include political/legal anthropology, religion,  kinship and ethnographic regional specialisms. They should also possess demonstrable experience in teaching and supervision of undergraduates, masters and PhD students.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Social Anthropology or a related area.
