CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology – welcomes applications in the field of Anthropology as the host institution for individual doctoral scholarships awarded by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) in the 2019 PhD Scholarship call.
CRIA is a leading Portuguese research unit in Anthropology, associated with four public universities – ISCTE-IUL, NOVA FCSH, FCT-UC, UMinho. It currently hosts 220 research fellows, mostly university lecturers and professors, post-graduate research fellows and others. The combined four universities provide CRIA with unique and overarching resources and facilities to support research and training both at national and international level.
CRIA’s research activities stem from four main research groups (RG), allowing for satellite research agendas to be incorporated. The RG are: 1) Circulation and Place-making, 2) Environment, Sustainability and Ethnography, 3) Governance, Policies and Livelihoods, 4) Practices and Policies of Culture. CRIA also hosts several thematic lines and smaller groups devoted to specific topics: visual cultures and arts; health; Islamic contexts; informal resources, State and social capital; religion.
