Deadline: 30th April 2018
Open Call for Artists
Residency “Anthropology, landscape and the senses: research and art in the landscape”
13th Spring Meetings
28 May – 10 June 2018
Picote (Miranda do Douro), Portugal
Call for artists for residency from 28th of May to 10th of June 2018, in north-eastern Portugal, in the amazing Douro valley. The residency is part of the ‘13th Spring Meetings’, running from 7th to 10th of June, an event bringing together anthropologists, artists, geographers, landscape architects, and other landscape researchers. The event is jointly organised by UTAD University and Frauga Association.
We are looking for artists whose work explores the relationship between human activity and natural environment and the production of landscape. We are expecting artists to create a ‘landscape intervention’ during their stay, using their preferred medium, including sound, but always respecting the natural environment. We are not asking candidates to propose any specific project at this stage, as we expect original and creative ideas will be stemming from the specific relationship with the place and the local landscape, the social context and local history. Artists will have to create one or several artworks during the residency, and will have to present the results in public roundtables. For further information please contact Lorenzo Bordonaro at lorenzo.bordonaro@gmail.com
No entry fee and no payment by the artist. The organization will provide to selected artists accommodation and food. It will also support travel expenses and materials for the realization of the artworks up to a total amount of 400€ (travel + materials). Candidates must be fluent in either Portuguese, Spanish or Gallego.
Please sent CV, Portfolio (or website) and motivation letter by 30th of April 2018 to lorenzo.bordonaro@gmail.com
