The Department of Global Health & Social Medicine is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Global Health & Social Medicine (Global Health Ethics)

Global Health & Social Medicine is a unique interdisciplinary department at King’s College London founded in 2012. Its mission is to address the changing landscape of health and medicine from social science perspectives. The Department invites applications for a Lecturer in Global Health & Social Medicine (Global Health Ethics). We particularly seek applicants with a specialism relevant to social justice. We welcome applicants who hold a PhD in sociology, philosophy, anthropology, medical ethics and law or a related discipline. Topical areas of research might include but are not limited to health and social justice, health inequalities and public health policy, antiracist and feminist public health ethics, human research ethics, biotechnologies in global health, global health threats, and intergenerational bioethics.

Candidates who would be well-positioned to collaborate with one or more of the Department’s Research Groups would be particularly welcome: Bioscience & Society; Culture, Medicine & Power; Mental Health & Society; and Ageing & Society. We also seek applicants with an outstanding track-record of research, publications and external funding relative to career stage, and who can demonstrate a clear leadership trajectory in research and teaching.

The postholder will be expected to make a major contribution to teaching on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, including on the MSc Bioethics & Society. S/he will have relevant teaching experience and excellent communication skills. Experience or familiarity with the academic environment in the UK is an advantage. The person appointed will be expected to carry his/her share of administrative duties within the Department. A commitment to collegiality is essential, as is the ability and willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with medical and biomedical researchers and practitioners, and with policy makers.

Those appointed at Grade 7 will be expected to have a growing national reputation within the academic field with a proven record of publications in high-impact national journals and will also have experience of teaching one or more modules at postgraduate or undergraduate level.

The appointment will be made at Grade 6 (£38,304 to £45,026 per annum, incl. of £3,500 per annum London Weighting Allowance), or at Grade 7 (£46,292 to £54,534 per annum, incl. of £3,500 per annum LWA), depending on qualifications and experience.

The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview. Interviews are scheduled for 27 April. It will not be possible to have Skype interviews.
